Going abroad, what for?
Going abroad, what for?
From Jurnal Indonesia
The plan of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) working
committee to go abroad for socializing results of the Annual
Session is quite strange. The main question is what is the
purpose? And the cost is very high. It's said the socialization
cost is about Rp 25 billion. If this were spent for the good of
the community it would have more benefit.
As a citizen I personally don't support the plan to tour 29
Asian, European and American countries. The MPR working committee
had better socialize it in Indonesia. Many local people neither
know nor comprehend the results of the Annual Session held last
August.
Closely observed, the socialization funds have indeed been
provided. But this doesn't mean the MPR working committee should
spend them. I observe that the MPR committee members are trying
to use the provided funds regardless of whether their activities
will hit the target or not.
I suppose, the goal of the MPR working committee is not far
from the fact that they wish to spend the existing socialization
funds. Actually the honorable MPR members should not force
themselves to proceed with their plan to go abroad.
If they really want to do so, there are other ways that can be
tried such as sending the Annual Session results to the
Indonesian embassies abroad. Or to make the Indonesian
ambassadors agents of socialization.
