Goh visits NZ, focusing on trade
WELLINGTON (Reuter): Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong arrived in New Zealand yesterday for a four-day official visit expected to focus on trade.
Goh flew into Christchurch and will tour the International Antarctic Visitors Center there before leaving for the capital Wellington to meet Prime Minister Jim Bolger, an official statement said.
The two leaders attended last week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Indonesia which agreed to create the world's biggest free trade zone by 2020.
Goh, who is to visit Auckland tomorrow and Thursday, will witness the signing of joint venture agreements in telecommunications, tourism and education.
By the end of 1993, New Zealand was Singapore's fifth largest investment destination, with total direct equity investment, including in property, standing at about New Zealand $1.5 billion (US$935 million).
