GM staff returning to RI

SINGAPORE (Reuters): General Motors expatriate staff have
begun returning to Indonesia, the company said in a statement.

Eleven employees were in the first wave which returned from
Singapore on Monday, it said, and the remainder should be back in
country by the end of the week.

"The situation continues to improve and is beginning to return
to normal. We anticipate that families will be able to return
soon," the statement quoted Bill Botwick, president of GM
Indonesia, as saying.

The statement, released late on Monday, said 20 employees and
38 family members had left Indonesia on May 16. The company's
international headquarters had said on May 15 that a plant in
Indonesia which made Opel Blazers for the Indonesian market had
stopped production as of May 14.

The latest GM statement said normal operations were resumed on
May 18.
