Global Tensions Drive US Petrol Prices Surge, California Most Expensive
Los Angeles, US (ANTARA) - Amid global tensions triggering a surge in the average national petrol price in the United States (US), California, the state with the highest prices in the US, recorded an average petrol price exceeding $6 (1 USD = Rp17,324) per gallon on Thursday (30/4). According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), a non-profit association with more than 60 million members, the national average has risen to $4.30 per gallon, experiencing a 27-cent increase in one week. In its press release, AAA stated that the current national average is $1.12 higher than the same period last year. This is occurring alongside a surge in crude oil prices exceeding $100 per barrel “with no indication of when the Strait of Hormuz will reopen”. “Petrol prices are currently at their highest point in the last four years, since the end of July 2022,” AAA added. California recorded the highest state-level average price of $6.01 per gallon on Thursday, followed by Hawaii at $5.64 and Washington at $5.57.
