Global Sevilla to Host Sanlat 2026, Strengthening Students' Character Education
To fill activities for students during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, Global Sevilla School Pulo Mas Campus in Jakarta has again organised Sanlat (Pesantren Kilat) 2026 on 7–8 March 2026 under the theme “Ramadan: Fasting with Purpose, Growing in Character.” The annual programme aims to guide students to understand the meaning of fasting deeply, not merely refraining from food and drink, but also building self-awareness and social consciousness, discipline, empathy and character growth.
In a statement today, Tesar Dzikrulloh, Deputy Principal for Student Affairs (Secondary) at Global Sevilla School Pulo Mas, said that as a character-based international school, Global Sevilla School believes education should focus not only on academic achievement but also on forming moral and spiritual values.
“Through this Ramadan Sanlat it is the right moment to sow values of patience, responsibility, self-reflection and social care in line with our school motto of self-control, compassion and giving to others,” Tesar said.
He added that through the Sanlat 2026 theme, the students are invited to fast with full awareness (purpose) and to treat Ramadan as a means of sustainable character growth. Nurul Istiana, Chair of the Sanlat 2026 organising committee, explained that the activities for Muslim students from kindergarten, primary, middle and secondary will take place over two days on 7–8 March 2026 at Global Sevilla Pulomas, with a structured programme combining worship, learning, reflection and engaging interactive activities.
The Sanlat programme opened with remarks from the school, parent representatives, and a speech by Omi Komariah Madjid, who serves as the Advisory Board of Global Sevilla. The opening featured student performances including a discourse (tausiyah) and a performance of religious songs. Students then conducted readings from the Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 183–184 with translation, followed by the remembrance of God (dhikr) of Asmaul Husna by Primary students.
To foster active involvement, students took part in Islam-based interactive games before performing the Dhuhr prayer in congregation at Madinatul Umran Mosque on the school campus. As the time to break the fast approached, all participants joined in breaking the fast together (takjil), Maghrib prayers in congregation, then a group supper followed by Isha, Tarawih, Witr and a short sermon (Kultum), plus Qur’anic recitation (Tadarus), pre-dawn meal (sahur) and dawn prayers in congregation, and other activities.
Reacting to the Sanlat 2026 activities, Ina Ermina Hasyim, a parent who is also Chair of the School Committee and Chair of the Masjid Madinatul Umran Global Sevilla Foundation, said they believe in the value of character education implemented at the school. She said as a parent she trusts that their children are being educated here amid the challenges of socialising and digital advances of today.
“We believe our children are getting an education here; their religious education is progressing, the environment is good, providing peace of mind for us as parents. Therefore, we support and back the Sanlat activities at Global Sevilla to strengthen our children’s character education during this holy and good month,” Ina said.
She said she maintains communication with the school and teachers. “It is very important for me to maintain and foster communication between teachers, children and parents, so that as parents we feel calm and less anxious about our children’s condition at school or outside,” she added. Ina, who has three children at Global Sevilla Pulo Mas,
Similarly, Aureli Schulz said the character education implemented acts as balance. “Three of my children study here too. I see a balance between modern and digital progress today and character education, also through this Sanlat for the children,” he said.
In his view, even though Global Sevilla is not a religious or Islamic school, it can maintain balance. He believes character education is not only at school but also outside; thus cooperation and good communication between school and parents is essential for character education to be aligned.
“Don’t be a sweet child at home, then suddenly behave differently at school, or the opposite—pious at school but difficult to manage at home. Therefore, cooperation between school and parents is crucial to integrating character education, so that we as parents feel safe and at ease,” he added. Aureli.
This event serves as a moment to strengthen ties and to foster social care for others, especially orphans and the underprivileged (duafa).
Abdul Mu’ti stated that the primary purpose of fasting is to shape a pious individual; one major indicator of piety is generosity or willingness to share.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasised that there will be no enforcement operations or screening of newcomers after Eid al-Fitr.
