Global Semiconductor Giants Schedule Meeting to Address 2026 Supply Crisis
Two global semiconductor industry giants are reported to be meeting to discuss collaboration on addressing a critical shortage in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) supplies essential for artificial intelligence technology development.
AMD Chief Executive Officer Lisa Su is scheduled to meet Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee in South Korea next week, according to Reuters reporting. The meeting will reportedly focus on securing supply cooperation for HBM, a crucial component in AI chip manufacturing, as reported by Maeil Business Newspaper citing industry sources.
Lisa Su is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on 18 March. During her visit, she will also meet several other strategic partners, including Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon. Naver has confirmed that the AMD meeting has been scheduled, though the company declined to disclose detailed agenda items. Samsung Electronics refused to comment on the discussion topics at the meeting.
The meeting occurs amid a surge in global demand for memory chips including HBM, DRAM, and NAND. These memory technologies are employed by major technology companies such as AMD and Nvidia in the race to build data centres and develop artificial intelligence systems.
Beyond discussing memory supplies, Lisa Su is reported to be discussing broader collaboration with Naver. This partnership encompasses expanding semiconductor supplies for data centres, building national or sovereign AI infrastructure, and developing next-generation computing technology.
The AMD CEO’s visit is also expected to coincide with Nvidia’s annual developer conference, Nvidia GTC, scheduled for 16-19 March in San Jose, California, United States.
