Global Oil Prices Rise; Hajj Minister States Airlines Have Not Requested Fare Increases
Global oil prices have risen following tensions stemming from the United States-Israel conflict with Iran. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Irfan Yusuf stated that, to date, hajj airlines have not submitted requests for fare adjustments in response to the rising oil prices.
“To date, the airlines have not submitted any fare changes,” said Gus Irfan after a meeting with Commission VIII of the People’s Consultative Assembly at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Gus Irfan noted that hajj flight contracts had been agreed upon previously. Therefore, he said, there had been no discussion regarding fare increases from the airlines.
“Because the contract was already agreed upon some time ago,” he explained.
“When we met with them yesterday, we did not discuss price increases, only discussed possible route changes,” he added.
Earlier, the government had not planned to increase subsidised fuel prices. According to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, the state budget remained robust despite being based on an assumption of US$70 per barrel.
“We are still safe, still strong. This price increase has only been going on for a few days; we work on a full-year basis with a US$70 assumption. It has only been a few days, not long enough to change our budget,” said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March.
A similar position was expressed by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. Bahlil stated there were no plans to increase subsidised fuel prices, at least until Eid al-Fitr.
“I can assure you that concerning subsidised fuel, until Eid al-Fitr there will, God willing, be no price increases whatsoever. So the state is present to ensure that even if there is a rise in global crude oil prices, subsidised fuel prices remain the same, with no increases,” Bahlil clarified.
