Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) recorded furniture and craft exports at around US$2.44 billion in 2023, and by November 2024 had reached US2.37billion, equivalenttoRp40.1trillion(exchangerateRp16, 925perUS).

“This position shows that Indonesia remains a relatively small player in a very large global market,” said Abdul Sobur, chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (HIMKI), at IFEX over the weekend.

“The global furniture market is currently valued at around US$201 billion per year. While this may appear daunting, it also creates opportunities for Indonesia to grow faster if its industrial and trade strategies are implemented correctly,” he added.

He noted that Indonesia has advantages not possessed by many other countries: a rich supply of tropical raw materials, from timber to rattan, combined with crafts traditions that have been handed down for centuries. To push Indonesia’s export targets globally, HIMKI together with Dyandra Promosindo is organising IFEX, a platform that brings together national industry strengths with world markets.

The trade show is a global platform that connects Indonesian furniture manufacturers with international buyers and will run 5–8 March 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City.

“This expansion is not merely about the size of the exhibition. The event is expected to boost industry confidence and international markets for Indonesia as a key supplier of furniture and crafts,” he said.

Many countries have strengthened their industries via such global trade platforms. Vietnam, for example, has increased furniture exports by more than sevenfold in the last two decades, not only due to industry strength but also because of consistent government policies in trade promotion, industrial investment, and supply-chain strengthening.

“Indonesia has no less potential. A broad industrial base, a wealth of design rooted in culture, and rising global awareness of sustainable products give Indonesia the opportunity to accelerate export growth,” he continued.

The event will also give producers from various regions in Indonesia the chance to meet directly with international buyers, build new business networks, and expand market access.

This momentum shows that the Indonesian furniture and crafts industry has the capability to move up a gear and compete more strongly in the global market. “The world today is seeking products that are not only of high quality but also feature unique design, material sustainability, and a cultural story behind them. Indonesia has all of these elements,” he said.
