Jakarta (ANTARA) — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasised the importance of readiness across all segments of society to face the digital transformation by mastering artificial intelligence (AI), not excluding teachers and parents. The statement was delivered by the Vice President as he reviewed the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop entitled Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday. According to briefings, the government under President Prabowo Subianto continues to push for strengthened mastery of science and technology, including AI, as the foundation of the nation’s progress. Gibran reminded that adaptation to technological developments is not solely the responsibility of the younger generation. Educators and parents are also required to continuously enhance their capacities to guide children effectively amid the acceleration of the digital era. ‘Parents of students, teachers as well, must not fall behind. Do not be shy to upgrade your own capacities,’ he said. According to him, mastering AI will open access to broader information and knowledge. However, such ease must be balanced with strengthening critical thinking abilities so that information obtained can be filtered, analysed, and used appropriately. ‘Critical thinking must be integrated with computational thinking,’ he said. Furthermore, the Vice President stated that technological progress, including AI, is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. Its presence should be seen as a strategic instrument supporting human activity across sectors, from education to the economy and public service. Therefore, AI utilisation must be undertaken wisely, ethically, and in accordance with its functions. Appropriate adaptation by teachers and parents is expected to ensure the younger generation not only excels technically but also possesses integrity, responsibility and maturity in using technology. Concluding his remarks, the Vice President again stressed the urgency of capacity-building among educators. ‘Once again, I entrust this to you, mothers and fathers who are teachers — you must not fall behind. And do not be shy to upgrade yourselves,’ he said.
