Gibran Supports Full Investigation into Case of Fallen TNI Soldiers in Lebanon
JAKARTA - Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming, fully supports a thorough investigation into the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Lebanon.
Gibran also requested that the process of repatriating the bodies be carried out to the maximum extent.
“I fully support the conducting of a thorough investigation by the UN as well as careful handling in accordance with the directives of President Prabowo, including maximum efforts regarding the repatriation process of the bodies,” said Gibran in his statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
The three soldiers were Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Staff Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon.
“The highest respect for the dedication of the soldiers who have carried out their duties in maintaining world peace,” Gibran continued.
Foreign Minister Sugiono had previously urged the United Nations (UN) to immediately hold an emergency Security Council (SC) meeting following the deaths of Indonesian peacekeeping personnel due to an attack in Lebanon.
In addition, Sugiono demanded a swift, transparent, and thorough investigation into the incident.
“We request the formation of an emergency Security Council UN meeting and a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation process,” Sugiono stated, quoted from his X account on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
He stated that both parties agreed to coordinate closely and follow up on several crucial steps in responding to the incident.
“These steps are taken while supporting efforts to reduce escalation of tensions and maintain regional stability,” he added.
