Gibran Receives Visit from Laos Deputy PM at Vice Presidential Palace
JAKARTA - Indonesia’s Vice President Gibran Rakabuming received a visit from Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Kompas.com observations noted that Thongsavan arrived wearing a black suit and red tie at around 1:27 PM Western Indonesia Time and was personally welcomed by the Vice President. Gibran appeared in a black suit with a light blue tie as he greeted the arrival of the Lao Deputy PM. The two state officials briefly conversed before entering the palace lobby. In addition to being welcomed by Gibran, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister’s arrival was greeted with a performance of the Balinese Tari Pendet dance and a musical display featuring the Sasando instrument typical of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Following this, the Lao Deputy PM and his entourage signed the guest book provided and posed for photographs together. During this visit, Gibran was accompanied by several officials, including Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Aminuddin Ma’ruf and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta.
