Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the Commercial Dock at Nabire Port in Teluk Kimi District, Nabire Regency, Central Papua, on Monday (20/04/2026) to ensure the port’s infrastructure readiness in supporting the smooth distribution of logistics in Central Papua.

The Vice President’s Secretariat stated that this activity is part of implementing President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, which emphasise strengthening connectivity and transportation infrastructure, including ports, as the backbone of goods distribution and equitable development in eastern Indonesia.

Upon arrival at the site, Gibran received a brief explanation from the Head of the Class II Nabire Port Service Unit Office, Ewanggen Kokoya.

The current conditions result in limited berthing space, so when a passenger ship docks, cargo ships must wait outside as simultaneous berthing is not possible.

Ewanggen also highlighted the limitations of the trestle facilities (bridge connecting to the dock), which impact loading and unloading activities.

Furthermore, Ewanggen explained that the current facility capacity is not yet adequate to serve large-sized containers.

“Because the containers we unload are already using 40-foot ones, Mr Vice President. So, the 40-foot length makes it impossible for them to pass each other. Roughly like that, Mr Vice President,” he said.

“Considering that our port is the main one serving eight districts behind us. Our focus is that perhaps 80 percent of the community’s needs will converge at our port,” said Ewanggen.

On that occasion, Gibran directed the Central Papua regional government to prepare directed and sustainable development planning, utilising the presence of Nabire Port as the main node for economic growth.

This planning is expected to integrate the development of the logistics, trade, and inter-regional connectivity sectors, so that the benefits of port development can be optimally felt by the wider community and drive comprehensive regional progress.
