Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the progress of the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A north-south line construction together with Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo on Tuesday (12/5/2026). The Vice President expressed appreciation for the project’s development, which is proceeding according to target. Gibran stated that the MRT Phase 2A construction is currently at around 59 percent progress. He mentioned that the route from Bundaran HI Station to Monas Station is targeted to be connected and operational by the end of 2027. Subsequently, the project will continue to Kota Station with a completion target at the end of 2029. “This is a collaborative project between the central and regional governments… So the progress is truly extraordinary,” said Gibran in the Harmoni to Sawah Besar area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday. Gibran also expressed thanks to all the construction workers involved in the project. He noted that there are around 3,800 workers who work day and night to ensure the construction stays on timeline. In addition, Gibran emphasised the importance of synergy between the central and regional governments in realising a public transportation system that is safe, comfortable, modern, and integrated. Support from agglomeration areas is also crucial to strengthen transportation connectivity in Jakarta and its surroundings. Gibran also highlighted the achievements of MRT Phase 1, which has served around 47 million passengers in the last year. According to him, this figure shows the high demand from the public for quality public transportation. Furthermore, Gibran appreciated the commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in developing the MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta services, which now reach agglomeration areas. He praised the policy of free public transportation fares for 15 groups of society, including the elderly and people with disabilities. Gibran believes that the public will increasingly switch to using public transport if the available services are safe and comfortable, especially for children, women, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. “Safe, comfortable, integrated, and modern public transportation is one of the President’s priorities,” he said.
