Gianyar Regent I Made Agus Mahayastra announced that poverty rates have declined during his administration’s performance throughout 2025. This was conveyed during a plenary session at the Gianyar Regency Regional Representative Council (DPRD) office.

The plenary session was scheduled to hear the Regent’s Report of Accountability (LKPJ) for the 2025 fiscal year. The poverty rate was reported to have decreased to 3.71 per cent, compared to 4 per cent in 2024.

“This is lower than the national poverty rate of 8.25 per cent,” said Mahayastra on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Beyond poverty reduction, Mahayastra also discussed the decline in unemployment figures in Gianyar. He stated that the unemployment rate was recorded at 1.98 per cent in 2024, declining to 1.55 per cent in 2025, or approximately 5,036 persons.

“The unemployment rate has fallen from 1.98 per cent in 2024 to 1.55 per cent in 2025,” he said.

Mahayastra stated that the reduction in poverty and unemployment has spurred economic growth in Gianyar. Economic growth in the regency was recorded at 5.89 per cent in 2025, an increase compared to 5.47 per cent in 2024.

“The Gini Index, which measures economic inequality and depicts the level of income inequality, has also shown improvement. It has declined from 0.29 in 2024 to 0.275 in 2025, which is classified as low inequality,” he said.

The Head of the Gianyar Labour Force Agency, I Gede Suardana Putra, stated that the poverty rate percentage for 2026 is targeted not to decline significantly, with a target reduction of only 1.50 per cent.

“This year, the target is only around 1.50 per cent,” said Suardana.

He noted that efforts to reduce poverty include creating widespread employment opportunities, ranging from job fairs to be held during Gianyar Regency’s anniversary in April 2026 to vocational training scholarships at 12 vocational training institutes (LPK) over a year-long period.

Already, 380 participants have registered and been processed from a quota of 400 persons. They are provided with a sum of IDR 16 million per person during free vocational training at the LPK.

“We are also providing mentoring to self-employed workers. So if residents wish to establish MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), we will first provide guidance,” he said.

The plenary session also outlined other performance indicators achieved throughout 2025, ranging from the Human Development Index (IPM) to the Government Agency Performance Accountability System (SAKIP) for Gianyar Regency.
