Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli has emphasised his commitment to broadening access to job training for people with disabilities. This disabled workers’ training programme is one of the government’s strategic priorities in promoting workforce inclusivity while enhancing the competencies of vulnerable groups in the labour market.

In a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR RI, Yassierli stressed that training for disabled workers is being continuously expanded, in line with the high demand for skills improvement.

“We want to convey that facilitating the development of workers with disabilities is also one of our strategic programmes. Last year, we trained nearly 300 people, and in the first two months of this year, almost 100 people, and we hope to meet the target of 1,100 in one year,” said Yassierli during the working meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4/2026).

He stated that this programme is part of the Ministry of Manpower’s (Kemnaker) broader agenda to strengthen vocational training as the core of improving the quality of the national workforce.

“We want to report that we have launched the national vocational training programme, so after having 100,000 interns last year, we want to focus our vocational training first in the early part of this year on the segment of high school and vocational high school graduates,” he said.

In addition to vocational training, the government is implementing various other programmes such as work competency certification, the development of community training centres, and internship programmes domestically and abroad.

On the other hand, Yassierli also highlighted the strengthening of the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) programme, particularly in supporting workers affected by layoffs to return to work through skills enhancement.

“Well, we will improve this further, and we hope it becomes one of the solutions for our friends who have been laid off, so they get upskilling and reskilling before they work at a new workplace,” he said.

Overall, Kemnaker has prepared 23 strategic programmes covering various aspects, from job training and industrial relations to labour market services.

Through these programmes, the government hopes to continuously increase workforce inclusivity, including for people with disabilities, in line with efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of human resources in Indonesia.
