The government is targeting 3,000 homes in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) to be renovated through house surgery or Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) in 2026. This increase in the house renovation programme quota is intended to accelerate improvements in the quality of people’s housing. The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) states that this number is a significant rise compared to the previous year, which only reached 655 units in East Kalimantan. Specifically in Balikpapan City, the BSPS programme is focused on reducing the backlog of uninhabitable houses (RTLH). All work is targeted to be completed by 15 August 2026 with the support of 39 Field Facilitators (TFL). To support the programme’s implementation, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov Kaltim) together with the Balikpapan City Government (Pemkot) is adding an allocation of 600 units, consisting of 500 units from the provincial government and 100 units from the city government. Meanwhile, the Ministry of PKP is also adding around 700 units of assistance through the BSPS programme. With these additions, the total house renovation programme in East Kalimantan for 2026 is targeted to reach 3,000 units. Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, stated that accelerating the BSPS programme is a form of the government’s presence in improving the quality of life for the people. “This house renovation programme not only repairs housing but also provides economic impacts for the community. We ensure its implementation is on target, transparent, and without any levies because it is sourced from the state budget,” said Ara, quoted from a press release on Tuesday (5/5/2026). “Collaboration between the central government, provinces, and regencies/cities is the key to the success of this programme. Local support is very important to ensure the programme runs effectively and reaches those in need,” said Tito. East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud stated that the provincial government fully supports the increase in the house renovation programme quota so that more people can feel the benefits. “We fully support this programme through the addition of quotas so that more East Kalimantan residents can feel the benefits, especially in improving the quality of their living spaces,” said Rudy. The government hopes that the increased quota and acceleration of the BSPS programme in East Kalimantan can provide real impacts on improving housing quality and community welfare.
