German tried in Bali

DENPASAR, Bali: A German travel executive was arraigned in the
Denpasar District Court on Friday on charges of defrauding Rp
147.50 million ($64,130) from eight hotels in Bali.

Antara reported that the defendant, identified only as NJA, a
45-year-old general manager of the Indonesian Travel Service in
Germany, had been sending guests to the hotels but failed to
settle the accounts presented to him. The prosecutors also said
that one of the hotels was paid with a check that later bounced.

The defendant, who was arrested while visiting the island last
August, is represented by lawyer Erwin Siregar.

During the hearing yesterday, he pleaded not guilty. (emb)
