The United States (US) and Iran are reported to have established indirect communications in recent times, as the war continues to rage. Representatives from both countries are also planning to hold a meeting soon, expected to take place in Pakistan.

This information, as reported by Reuters on Friday (27/3/2026), was conveyed by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio on Friday (27/3) local time.

“Based on my information, there have been indirect contacts, and preparations have been made for a direct meeting. It appears that this will happen soon in Pakistan,” Wadephul stated in the interview.

There has been no direct statement from either the US or Iran regarding the planned meeting in Pakistan.

However, it is known that Pakistan, along with Egypt and Turkey, is serving as one of the mediators for the US and Iran in efforts to negotiate an end to the war that has been raging since the end of February.

Islamabad has maintained direct contacts with Washington and Tehran when such communication channels have been frozen for most other countries. Pakistan is also viewed as a potential venue if peace negotiations are held in the future.

Recently, the administration of US President Donald Trump offered a ceasefire proposal containing 15 points as conditions to Iran. That proposal was delivered through Pakistan as an intermediary between the two conflicting countries.

The US ceasefire proposal, according to sources in the Israeli cabinet familiar with its contents, calls for the elimination of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, the cessation of uranium enrichment, restrictions on the ballistic missile programme, and the severing of funding to Tehran’s regional allies.

In recent times, Trump has stated that Iran is very keen to reach an agreement with the US. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran is examining Washington’s proposal, but there is no intention to hold talks to end the war.
