Gerindra Urges Public to Accept MK Ruling Regarding Gibran's Educational Credentials
Jakarta, VIVA – The Gerindra Party respects the Constitutional Court (MK) decision regarding the dispute over the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential election results through case Number 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026, which included issues regarding the educational requirements of the elected Vice President-designate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Gerindra Party Spokesperson, Sugiat Santoso, stated that the Constitutional Court’s ruling, which declared the petitioner’s application inadmissible, must be respected by all parties.
“The Gerindra Party fully respects the Verdict of the Constitutional Court Number 001/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026, which explicitly states that the Petitioner’s application is Not Admissible or Niet Ontvankelijk Verklaard,” said Sugiat in a statement on Thursday (8/10/2026).
According to Sugiat, the Constitutional Court’s decision is final and binding. Consequently, all legal dynamics related to the Dispute of General Election Results (PHPU) for the 2024 Presidential Election are considered concluded.
He also noted that the Court has clarified the legal standing of the petitioners and the authority for resolving election result disputes, which follows specific stages and deadlines.
“The nomination process through to the final determination has undergone verification by the authorised institution (KPU) in accordance with the legal corridors applicable during the election stages,” he said.
Gerindra subsequently urged all elements of society, national figures, and political parties to respond to the Constitutional Court’s decision wisely. Sugiat requested that the controversy surrounding the case does not continue indefinitely.
According to Sugiat, speculation and legal discourse that continues to question the Vice President’s position after the inauguration risks creating legal uncertainty.
“This could disrupt the investment climate, market perception, and international confidence in Indonesia’s political stability,” he stated.
Sugiat assessed that a healthy democracy requires all parties to respect legal corridors, dispute resolution deadlines, and the final decisions of the judiciary.
He also requested that political actors channel their critical energy through policy oversight or checks and balances, rather than continuing to extend the polemic regarding the previous election process.
“Mature democracy is tested by the ability of political actors to accept existing legal channels, respect dispute resolution deadlines, and redirect critical energy towards policy oversight instead of continuously revolving around past controversies,” he concluded.
