Gerindra Lawmaker Urges Government to Crack Down on Thuggery Disrupting BYD and VinFast Factory Construction
Jakarta — Gerindra faction secretary in the House of Representatives (DPR) and Deputy Chairman of Commission XII, Bambang Haryadi, has highlighted disruptions to the construction of BYD and VinFast electric vehicle factories in Subang, West Java, urging the government to take firm action.
"I am deeply concerned by reports of disruptions to the construction of BYD and VinFast electric vehicle factories in Subang, West Java, carried out by elements of civil society organisations (ormas) engaging in thuggery," Bambang told reporters on Sunday (27/4/2025).
Bambang said investment in the electric vehicle sector is a strategic move. According to him, such investment supports the transition towards sustainable energy and must not be disrupted by irresponsible organisations.
"Investment in the industrial sector, particularly electric vehicles, is a strategic step to strengthen the national economy, create jobs, and support the transition towards sustainable energy," said Bambang, who also serves as Chairman of Dekopin.
Bambang pressed for firm action against the thuggery, calling on relevant parties to act.
"We urge the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, local governments, law enforcement, and all stakeholders to take firm action against activities that disrupt the investment climate. Crack down on organisations that interfere with investment and government programmes. Such disruptions not only harm investors but also hinder the potential for improving local community welfare through job creation and regional economic development," he said.
Bambang emphasised that Commission XII of the DPR would continue to oversee the matter to ensure Indonesia's investment environment remains conducive. He also called on all parties to support government efforts in attracting investment.
"Commission XII of the DPR will continue to monitor this issue and ensure that Indonesia's investment environment remains conducive. We also call on all parties to support the government's efforts to attract foreign investment that benefits national progress. Let us work together to maintain stability and security for the sake of national interest," he concluded.
