KOMPAS.com – The behaviour of children who are unafraid to express their opinions is becoming increasingly common, especially among Generation Alpha, or Gen Alpha.
Many parents view this behaviour as a sign of rudeness or defiance.
However, experts argue that this phenomenon cannot be seen simply as a matter of attitude.
According to them, this makes children more accustomed to expressing their opinions and questioning things, including from older people.
Gen Alpha is a generation born around 2010 to the mid-2020s. They are the first generation to grow up entirely in the digital age.
From a young age, they have been familiar with technology, from the use of gadgets to digital-based learning.
In addition, Gen Alpha also grew up in the midst of various global events, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which also influenced the way they learn and interact socially.
“Behaviour that appears to challenge authority can actually be a sign that they feel comfortable questioning and expressing their opinions,” he explained.
He added that Gen Alpha grew up in an environment that encourages self-expression, emotional intelligence, and the habit of not accepting things without explanation.
Exposure to various information from an early age makes them accustomed to seeing things from various perspectives.
This encourages them to be more critical, including when dealing with rules or decisions from older people.
“If in the past children tended to say ‘yes’ or just follow, now they are more likely to ask ‘why’ or express their own views,” said Nobile.
