Gede-Pangrango National Park Temporarily Closes All Tourist Destinations
Cianjur — The Gede-Pangrango National Park Authority temporarily closed all natural tourism destinations in the Gede-Pangrango mountain range for one day on 20 March to allow the public and officials to celebrate Eid with their families.
Agus Yulianto, Head of Technical Affairs at the Gede-Pangrango National Park Authority, stated in Cianjur on Thursday that the closure was implemented in accordance with Circular Letter Number 04 of 2026 concerning the Closure of Natural Tourism Activities at Gede-Pangrango National Park, issued on 10 March 2026.
“All tourism destinations under the Gede-Pangrango National Park Authority in the Cianjur and Sukabumi regions are temporarily closed for one day, and will resume normal operations on 21 March,” he said.
The authority requested all sectors of society to comply with the ban on activities at tourism destinations within the national park area, including climbing, waterfall visits, and suspension bridge crossings in the Situ Gunung-Sukabumi area, warning that strict penalties would be imposed on violators.
“We urge the public to follow the regulations by not conducting climbing and tourism activities during the closure, as strict sanctions will be enforced,” he added.
During the closure period, the park authority intensified surveillance and patrols involving local communities and volunteers to prevent violations, including illegal climbing attempts. The authority deployed 25 officers along the climbing routes to intercept illegal climbers, as climbing to Gede-Pangrango remains closed.
Illegal climbers apprehended would face administrative sanctions, payment of fines, and inclusion on a blacklist prohibiting them from climbing at all national parks across Indonesia for several years.
