Gas Leak in Bekasi Contained, PGN Confirms Safety
Gas pipeline surge occurred at the traffic light in Perumnas I, Bekasi City. As a result, the entrance and exit of the complex near the incident site were temporarily closed. Rohman, a local resident who witnessed the incident, said it happened at 2:20pm WIB. He was at a workshop about 10 metres from the scene. “The workshop is just 10 metres from the site. Shopkeepers and traders nearby were panicking because the gas smell was quite pungent, even seeping inside,” Rohman said when contacted on Friday (29 May 2026). Rohman added that a drainage project was underway at the incident location, with an excavator likely hitting the gas pipeline. “There’s a drainage project for a new culvert. They’re using an excavator to break the road, possibly hitting the gas pipe, which caused the strong gas smell,” he said. The surge had ceased by around 4:30pm WIB, but the residential entrance near the site remained closed. “By half past four, the smell had gone, but the road was blocked — people inside couldn’t exit. It’s still closed now because of the pungent gas smell,” he said. PGN Confirms Safety Listya, Head of PGN Bekasi, stated the situation is now safe. Listya confirmed the gas surge had stopped. “Since yesterday afternoon, the situation has been resolved, and the surge has ceased,” Listya said when contacted on Saturday (30 May 2026). Dian suspected the incident was linked to third-party work near the natural gas network. He said after receiving the report, his team immediately secured the area. “This is suspected to be related to third-party activities around the natural gas network,” he said. “In response to the report, PGN’s operational team promptly secured the surrounding area and implemented safety and operational procedures. The situation has been safe and controlled since yesterday afternoon,” he added.
