The Garut Regency Government in West Java officially received a working visit from a delegation from Shizuoka City, Japan, on Thursday, 28 May 2026. The meeting marks a crucial step in establishing productive and mutually beneficial international cooperation, particularly in developing local commodity potential and strengthening human resources in Garut. Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin stated that the collaboration aims to bring Garut’s local potential to the global stage. Through the partnership with Japan, the local government hopes to create added value for the wider community. During discussions, several priority sectors were identified as the main focus for potential cooperation between Garut Regency and the Shizuoka delegation, including: ‘We have discussed the potential for this collaboration and hope it can be realised in the future, especially regarding coffee commodities. Additionally, we are working to assist skilled workers in securing employment in Japan to benefit both parties,’ said Abdusy Syakur Amin. Dadan Muhamad Arifin, representing Bitode Vocational Training Agency (LPK) and accompanying the Japanese delegation led by Nao San, explained that the visit also aims to support the local government’s employment programme. The ‘1 Village 1 Migrant’ initiative is expected to professionally and sustainably absorb local labour. The Japanese delegation expressed high appreciation for Garut’s coffee quality. As a follow-up, the delegation is scheduled to conduct on-site inspections to observe coffee cultivation processes and assess the potential of fisheries in southern Garut’s coastal areas. The goal is to explore productive cooperation in commodity trade (coffee and fisheries) and the placement of skilled workers from Garut in Japan. This initiative is led by the Garut Regency Government to empower rural human resources, enabling them to work legally in Japan with adequate skills. Garut coffee is highly regarded for its quality and reputation in the Japanese market, prompting Shizuoka’s delegation to seek expanded export access and cultivation development.
