Garuda Indonesia sends 15 tonnes of food for hajj needs in Jeddah
Tangerang - National airline Garuda Indonesia has flown at least 15 tonnes of logistics in the form of ready-to-eat Nusantara food and pasta spices to meet the logistical needs of Indonesian hajj pilgrims in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Garuda Indonesia’s Commercial Director, Reza Aulia Hakim, stated that this logistics shipment was carried on two flights as part of the total delivery of 230 tonnes of food for hajj pilgrims. “Through this synergy, Garuda Indonesia will gradually send 230 tonnes, divided into two periods: 2–6 April 2026, and then 17–30 April 2026, to both Jeddah and Madinah,” said Reza in a written statement received in Tangerang on Thursday. He explained that the release of this ready-to-eat food and pasta spice export is a concrete step to ensure the comfort of hajj pilgrims, particularly in fulfilling logistical and operational needs for hajj. Meanwhile, President Director of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero), Daud Joseph, noted that this aligns with the hajj flight operations scheduled to begin on 22 April. According to him, Garuda Indonesia continues to optimise various operational preparations, from distributing pilgrims’ luggage to ensuring all fleets used are airworthy. Director General of Hajj and Umrah Economic Ecosystem Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Prof Jaenal Effendi, added that the major hajj event requires support and cross-sectoral cooperation from the government, flight operators, logistics operators, and other supporting services to realise a hajj and umrah ecosystem that benefits the pilgrims. The inaugural release of 2026 hajj logistics was flown using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with flight number GA 980, departing from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 11:45 WIB and scheduled to arrive at King Abdulaziz International Airport at 17:40 local time.
