Garuda Indonesia gets new president
JAKARTA (JP): Approaching its 26th anniversary next Thursday, the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will have its new president, Supandi, sworn in today.
A company spokesman, Jansius Siahaan, told The Jakarta Post yesterday that Minister of Transportation Haryanto Dhanutirto is scheduled to swear in Soepandi, 58, as the airline's president, replacing Wage Mulyono.
Wage, 61, was inaugurated as Garuda's president in early 1992 by the then Minister of Transportation Azwar Anas. He replaced M. Suparno who served as a president for four years.
Jansius also said that Minister Haryanto will also install a number of executives of state-owned companies overseen by the Ministry of Transportation.
"The new executives will include Garuda's director of personnel and general affairs, who will replace Supandi," he said.
Supandi, who served as a chief executive officer of the Batam Industrial Development Authority in 1989 through 1992, joined Garuda in August 1994.
There was no explanation on why Wage would be replaced after having only served three years in office. A top executive of a state-owned company usually holds the position for five years. (icn)
