JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has confirmed that the two national carriers, Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air, have not been directly affected by the escalating Iran–Israel conflict, despite transiting Middle Eastern airspace.

According to Purwagandhi, flights operated by Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air to Jeddah continue to operate normally. For long-haul routes, Garuda Indonesia’s Amsterdam service has implemented a flight path adjustment (reroute) via Cairo, Egypt, as a precautionary measure.

“For national carriers transiting Middle Eastern airspace such as Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air, they have not been impacted so far,” said Purwagandhi in an official statement on Sunday (2 March 2026).

“Flights to Jeddah are continuing, whilst Garuda Indonesia’s Amsterdam flights are being rerouted via Cairo (Egypt),” he added.

Several international carriers have implemented flight cancellations, including Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, IndiGo, SriLankan Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Scoot.

Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) is continuing to monitor several destination cities in the region. Oman Air has reportedly continued normal operations, whilst Ethiopian Airlines continues to operate regular services but has temporarily suspended routes to Amman (Jordan) and Tel Aviv (Israel).

The Transport Minister stressed that aviation safety and security remain the government’s principal priority. The Transport Ministry continues to coordinate with AirNav Indonesia, airlines, airport operators and foreign aviation authorities to update information on Middle Eastern airspace security.

“Aviation safety and security are the priority. We continue to coordinate to ensure all flights operate safely and smoothly,” he affirmed.
