Jakarta, VIVA – ANTAM’s Pongkor Gold Mining Business Unit (UBPE) has initiated Garitan Kalongliud, an integrated circular agriculture model that revives village economies through the optimisation of dormant land and waste management.

The model emerged from a crisis triggered by natural disasters and the pandemic in 2020. At the time, Kalongliud Village in Bogor Regency faced total irrigation damage that rendered 150 hectares of farmland unproductive.

The programme has proven effective both environmentally and technically. Some 35 hectares of previously abandoned land are now productive again, supported by drip irrigation technology that saves up to 60% of water usage.

Additionally, the conversion of 25 tonnes of sheep manure into organic fertiliser has successfully reduced chemical fertiliser costs by 50%, whilst contributing to a carbon emission reduction of 21.5 tonnes of CO₂eq per growing season.

Economically, Garitan Kalongliud has increased farmer group incomes by 65%, with profits reaching Rp246 million during the 2024–2025 chilli cultivation period.

This success is also reflected in a Social Return on Investment (SROI) value of 4.34, meaning every one rupiah invested generates more than four rupiah in social benefits.

Corporate Secretary of PT ANTAM Tbk, Wisnu Danandi Haryanto, affirmed that the programme represents a tangible manifestation of the company’s comprehensive sustainability strategy.

“The Garitan Kalongliud programme demonstrates that sustainability is not solely about environmental aspects, but also encompasses economic strengthening and social resilience. ANTAM believes that an ecosystem-based approach can create broader and more sustainable impacts for communities,” said Wisnu in a statement on Monday, 23 February 2026.

The model is expected to serve as a reference for strengthening villages based on local potential, whilst supporting the company’s sustainability strategy in maintaining social and environmental stability around its operational areas.

The Kalongliud journey demonstrates that village recovery need not always begin with large-scale interventions, but rather with the design of appropriate systems.
