Jakarta — A one-metre-high pile of rubbish outside the TPS3R Hanura waste processing facility on Jalan Hanura Ketapang, Krukut, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, has drawn complaints from residents for causing traffic congestion and endangering road users.

Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday (14 March 2026), the rubbish pile extends not only in front of the TPS3R facility. The garbage also stretches across Kali Krukut bridge for approximately 50 metres.

Part of the pile even encroaches on the road surface above the bridge to about half its width. The road, which is approximately five metres wide, has become progressively narrower as the roadside is filled with waste.

Beyond obstructing traffic, a foul stench emanating from the rubbish pile has prompted numerous motorcycle riders to cover their noses while passing through the area. Traffic conditions are reported to worsen significantly during peak hours, particularly in the morning and evening.

“Yes, it causes really severe congestion, especially in the afternoon,” said waste worker Jupri (45) when interviewed by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday (14 March 2026).

Similar complaints were expressed by local resident Sukardi (38). He stated that congestion occurs almost daily since the rubbish accumulated across the bridge.

Beyond causing congestion, the rubbish pile also makes the road surface slippery when it rains. This condition frequently causes motorcycle riders to fall when passing through the area.

“The road is really disrupted, cars get congested every day, and when it rains many people have accidents, motorcycles slip and fall,” he said at the location on Saturday.
