Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Association of Beef Cattle Business Actors (Gapuspindo) has assured that the national beef supply remains stable despite global geopolitical dynamics that could potentially affect logistics costs.

Gapuspindo Executive Director Djoni Liano stated that, to date, the impact of global geopolitical conditions on the supply and price of beef in the domestic market has not been felt significantly.

“Not yet. We haven’t felt it directly. The end of it isn’t visible yet,” Djoni said in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that Indonesia has so far relied on beef cattle imports from several countries, particularly Australia, so changes in global conditions could potentially affect distribution costs in the medium and long term.

“The influence is there, especially on logistics which become more expensive,” he said.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that this situation has not yet directly impacted the availability of supply in the domestic market.

According to him, the government and business actors continue to maintain a balance between needs and supply to ensure beef distribution runs smoothly.

Based on data from the National Food Agency’s Price Panel (PIHPS) on Monday, the average price of beef recorded a decline, with quality 1 beef at Rp148,450 per kilogram (kg), down 1.43 percent, and quality 2 beef at Rp139,950 per kg, down 1.55 percent compared to the previous day.

Djoni added that potential changes in demand from other countries could indeed affect the global beef supply, but the current market mechanisms are still functioning and domestic needs can still be met.

“If other countries increase imports, we could be affected in terms of price or supply, but so far it’s still under control,” he stated.

He also assessed that the main factor influencing price movements in the domestic market still comes from consumer purchasing power.

“All commodities depend on purchasing power. If purchasing power is strong, the market will keep moving,” Djoni remarked.

Meanwhile, the government has assured that the national food availability, including beef, is safe during the high-demand period of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) recorded that the national ruminant meat availability until 18 March 2026 reaches around 226,000 tonnes, or about three times the estimated monthly need of around 65,800 tonnes.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan previously also conveyed that national food security remains maintained amid global dynamics, among others because the supply sources do not depend on one region.

Gapuspindo hopes that coordination between the government and business actors continues to be strengthened so that the supply remains stable and beef availability can continue to be fulfilled.
