JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PDI-P Deputy Chairman Ganjar Pranowo believes that the proposal to require party cadre training as a condition for presidential and vice-presidential nominations would not be easy to implement.

He expressed this view in response to the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) push for public officials, including presidential and vice-presidential candidates, to emerge from political party cadre systems.

“Requiring candidates to undergo cadre training first feels not easy,” Ganjar said when contacted on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Therefore, candidates from political parties should ideally follow that process.

“In the context of public office candidates participating in elections, especially those from political parties that function as sources of cadre recruitment, undergoing cadre training is important,” Ganjar stated.

This is because presidential candidates can still come from outside political parties.

“However, presidential candidates can come from outside the party,” he said.

Ganjar also highlighted the readiness of political parties in preparing cadres to run as leaders.

He noted that not all parties have the same capabilities.

“Not all parties can prepare their cadres to run as candidates,” he said.

“If they are not party cadres, or do not want to join a party, then that requirement cannot be fulfilled,” Ganjar added.

He further explained that the public can still evaluate the suitability of candidates from various aspects, such as track records, education, and experience.
