JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Residents of RT 11 RW 7 Gandaria Utara, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, installed three gates with digital access to the area where they live. The head of RT 11, Imam Basori, or commonly known as Ibas, said that one gate with digital access costs around Rp 1.2 million. The funds were drawn from operational costs provided by the government and voluntary contributions from residents. ‘The cost of the access device for the tap is Rp 800,000. Not expensive. In total with all the fittings, like stickers, and other items, this came to about Rp 1.2 million,’ Ibas told Kompas.com on Wednesday (4 March 2026). All fencing and the tap installation work was carried out through mutual cooperation without involving third parties. The gates with restricted access were built to deter crime in the residents’ neighbourhood. Ibas hopes the entire RW 7 area can be connected to gates like these to safeguard the neighbourhood, particularly at night. Currently, he has already begun communicating with several RTs interested in the innovation. Some people admitted they were surprised to learn the cost was not as high as they had imagined. ‘They asked, ’Sir, how much is that?’ They always ask about the budget. We gave them, ‘Here is the link, you can buy it yourself. When installation time comes, I will install it for you.’ So there’s no need to hire anyone,’ Ibas explained. The three gates were inaugurated on Sunday (1 March 2026). Each family included in one family card is given a single access card that can be used when exiting or entering after midnight WIB. After all the gates were installed, Ibas also planned to procure GPS trackers for residents’ motorcycles to anticipate theft. ‘Next time I will fund from operational funds, for one motorbike one GPS. Next time, once everything is finished (the gates), there will be another innovation,’ he said. Ibas said there have been several attempted thefts in his area. Motorcycle theft has also occurred in neighbouring RTs. Ibas, who is a member of the police, said South Jakarta is indeed classified as a red zone for motorcycle theft (curanmor) by the police.
