The Tabanan Regency government will soon revitalise the Senggol Market in the Gajah Mada Road area and the Pesiapan Terminal. These two strategic areas will be comprehensively redesigned to be more orderly, clean, and aesthetic.

Head of the Tabanan Research and Development Agency, I Made Urip Gunawan, stated that this redesign is part of efforts to beautify the face of Tabanan City while addressing classic issues in the city centre.

“Indeed, it is planned to be carried out in 2026. The Senggol Market, which has been located in the middle of Gajah Mada Road, will be relocated to the Pesiapan Terminal to improve traffic flow. The design progress is with the Public Works Department,” said Urip Gunawan on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

To date, the presence of the Senggol Market has been considered to cause congestion because it uses part of the road body. In addition, cleanliness conditions have also come under scrutiny as remnants of traders’ activities often leave rubbish that is difficult to clean.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Tabanan Public Works Department, I Gde Made Partana, explained that the redesign will focus on two main points: Gajah Mada Road and the Pesiapan Terminal.

On Gajah Mada Road, the redesign will involve installing paving similar to the concept of the Gajah Mada Road area in Denpasar City. This installation will be built from Banjar Sakenan to in front of Cakra Shop. Along the road, elements such as statues and videotrons will be added to enhance aesthetics.

During the construction process, all traders who usually sell in the area will be temporarily relocated to the west side of the I Ketut Maria Arts Building up to the north of Bank BPD Bali.

“The redesign of Gajah Mada Road is focused on aesthetics and comfort. It is hoped that this area will become neater and more representative,” explained Partana.

Meanwhile, the Pesiapan Terminal will be transformed into a new economic activity centre. The redesign includes building kiosks, organising the front area, and developing thematic markets such as animal markets, culinary markets, and mobile markets.

Interestingly, this area is also designed to become a 24-hour culinary centre. In the future, heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses are planned not to pass through the city centre to support the comfort of the area.

Partana emphasised that the redesign of the Pesiapan Terminal will not eliminate its function as a terminal. Meanwhile, the rear section will be utilised for the culinary centre and thematic markets.

He added that currently, they are finalising the tender documents so that the tender process can be carried out soon. Although the budget allocation is already available, finalisation is still being rushed.

Partana hopes that this redesign project, which is directly overseen by Tabanan Regent Komang Gede Sanjaya, will proceed according to plan and receive full support from the community.
