JAKARTA — Jalan Raya Gading Indah in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, became the site of an accident that went viral on social media.

Based on video footage uploaded by Instagram account @ijoeel, the initial footage shows an individual lying on the road being attended to by Civil Order Agency (Satpol PP) and police personnel.

The road surface appeared uneven with considerable pothole damage. “You can see it clearly — the road is damaged and the lighting is poor, making it very dark,” the uploader said in the video.

Following observation by journalists at the location at 3 p.m. on Thursday, the road had already been repaired with asphalt. Fresh black asphalt indicating repair work was visible at several points, along with white markings made by the uploader to identify the pothole locations.

Arif, 55, a local resident, stated that road repairs only commenced following the accident. “Perhaps if the incident hadn’t occurred, we wouldn’t know,” he said when met by journalists.

He confirmed the road had been in severe disrepair before the recent repairs. “It’s not just a hole — it’s a deep pothole. Any motorcycle passing through would definitely fall,” he explained.

When contacted for confirmation, he noted: “It’s still privately owned, not a government asset.”
