Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to discharge 55,000 tonnes of treated water in 2025
Tokyo (ANTARA) - The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan discharged 55,011 tonnes of its treated water into the sea during fiscal year 2025, according to Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) in a press release on Tuesday (24/3). According to TEPCO, the facility conducted seven rounds of treated water discharge throughout fiscal year 2025, which runs from April 2025 to March 2026. The company plans to carry out eight rounds of discharge in fiscal year 2026, with an estimated total volume of around 62,400 tonnes. Japan began discharging treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the sea in August 2023 and faced protests from several international communities. To date, a total of 18 rounds of discharge have been completed, with a cumulative volume of approximately 141,000 tonnes of treated water from the nuclear plant discharged into the sea.
