Fuel Transport Aircraft Crashes in North Kalimantan, Pilot Survives After Parachute Jump
A fuel transport aircraft is believed to have crashed in the hilly area of Krayan, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan. The pilot was reported to have survived after managing to escape using a parachute moments before the aircraft hit the ground.
The information was relayed by Dawat Butal, a resident in contact with inhabitants of Pa’ Betung village near the crash site. The pilot has since been found and evacuated by local residents.
“The pilot has been found by the people of Pa’ Betung. The pilot himself recounted that he jumped with a parachute. The pilot is safe and has been secured by the residents of Pa’ Betung,” said Dawat, as reported by detikKalimantan on Thursday (19 February 2026).
Dawat, currently located in the Trang Baru area, explained that according to local witnesses, the aircraft fuselage was seen plunging into the hills first.
Shortly afterwards, the parachute carrying the pilot followed down from the sky. The pilot and villagers are currently at a safe location in Pa’ Betung village. Residents have not yet been able to reach the exact crash site of the aircraft wreckage due to the difficult terrain.
“According to residents’ accounts, the aircraft fell first and then the parachute followed down afterwards. Residents have not yet reached the crash site. I have asked locals to send photographs and video if they are able to,” Dawat added.
