Fuel stocks secure for up to 23 days as consumption projected to rise 12 percent
Jakarta – The government has projected an increase in consumption of petrol during the exodus homecoming period and Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2026. Erika Retnowati, a member of the Committee of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body (BPH Migas), stated that the surge in demand is estimated to reach approximately 12 percent compared with normal conditions.
“The projection of fuel demand dynamics during this operational period estimates petrol will rise by approximately 12 percent from normal conditions, whilst diesel will fall by approximately 14.5 percent. Aviation fuel is projected to increase by 2.8 percent and kerosene by 4.2 percent,” Erika said during the opening press conference of the National Operations Centre for the Energy and Mineral Resources Sector (ESDM) for the Eid al-Fitr 2026 period on Thursday (12 March 2026).
The government has established a National Operations Centre for the ESDM sector to monitor and coordinate energy supply during the Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr period. The government and state enterprises are also preparing various energy distribution infrastructure.
Facilities deployed include 125 fuel terminals, 7,885 public fuel stations (SPBU), and 72 aircraft refuelling depots (DPPU). Additional facilities are also being prepared in areas with high demand potential, particularly along the exodus routes and tourist destinations.
Erika noted that the condition of national fuel reserves is at a safe level. “Generally, the resilience of fuel stock conditions is secure, whether for petrol, diesel or aviation fuel, with stock resilience maintained at a range of 17 to 23 days,” she said.
Pertamina has also prepared a number of additional facilities to strengthen energy distribution services. These facilities include 2,074 round-the-clock standby petrol stations, 64 fuel service points and Pertamina Emergency Kiosks, as well as 200 fuel delivery motorcycles and standby tanker trucks respectively.
The government also projects that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution will increase during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. “The projection of LPG distribution during the operational period is predicted to increase by approximately 4 percent compared with average normal distribution,” Erika said.
