Fuel prices remain unchanged this month

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

State oil and gas company Pertamina has decided to maintain the price of fuel products for transportation and industry for this month, a media statement said on Monday.

The fuel prices were unchanged from January. Premium fuel for industry is listed at Rp 2,100 per liter, kerosene Rp 2,200 per liter, automotive diesel fuel Rp 2,050 per liter and industrial diesel fuel Rp 1,600.

The price of premium gasoline at gas pumps will remain flat at Rp 1,810 per liter, while the price of kerosene is still Rp 1,800 per liter.

Pertamina's high-quality gasoline brands Pertamax and Pertamax Plus will remain at Rp 4,000 per liter and Rp 4,200 per liter, respectively.

Pertamina said that the only adjustment of fuel prices was in the international bunker prices, valid starting today.

Automotive diesel price dropped from 38 U.S. cents per liter in January to 35.4 U.S cents per liter and industrial diesel from 36.2 U.S cents per liter to 33.8 U.S cents per liter. Fuel oil declined from 20.3 U.S. cents per liter to 19.5 U.S cents per liter.

Bunker international prices are not subject to tax and are valid for foreign ships, vessels heading abroad and bunker fuel agents.

Pertamina decides on new fuel prices every month based on prices in neighboring Singapore and exchange rate developments. But the government has decided not to raise fuel prices during the elections.

The cash-strapped government is still mulling over various schemes that will increase domestic retail fuel prices by cutting subsidies. Last year, the fuel subsidy amounted to Rp 63 trillion ($6.89 billion) amid soaring international crude oil prices, which at one point reached $55 per barrel.
