JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government has confirmed that reports of a fuel price hike (BBM) set to take effect from 1 April 2026 are untrue. The issue had previously been widely discussed, particularly regarding alleged sharp increases in non-subsidised fuel prices such as Pertamax. “Pertamina will not yet make any price adjustments for either subsidised or non-subsidised BBM,” said Prasetyo in an official statement on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Although prices for both subsidised and non-subsidised BBM remain stable, Acting Secretary General of the DPP Organda, Kurnia Lesani Adnan, believes this moment should be used to evaluate fuel subsidy policies. “This is the time for the President to revoke the provisions of Perpres 191, which regulates the use of subsidised BBM, including restrictions on purchases and the use of the MyPertamina barcode,” said Sani, his nickname, to Kompas.com on Tuesday (31/3/2026). “If the government wants to address the quota for subsidised BBM and its budget, the use of subsidised BBM should only be for public transport vehicles (yellow plates),” he said. Sani also stated that the number of vehicles registered with yellow plates is less than 10% of the total registered vehicles in Indonesia. “In addition, vehicles that do not pay STNK tax should not be allowed to refuel with either subsidised or non-subsidised BBM,” he added.
