Fuel Price Concerns Drive Surge in Polytron Electric Motorcycle Sales
JAKARTA – Concerns over rising fuel prices, sparked by escalating geopolitical tensions between the United States-Israel and Iran, are impacting Indonesia.
Polytron, a local electric motorcycle manufacturer, recorded a surge in orders when discussions about fuel price increases emerged some time ago.
“Yes, to be honest, before the issue of the (fuel price) increase arose, the number of purchase orders coming in also increased significantly,” said Tekno in Jakarta recently.
“It could have increased by about 90 percent,” Tekno added.
According to him, this situation shows that the public is beginning to consider electric motorcycles as an alternative vehicle amid uncertainties in fossil fuel prices.
Tekno stated that for 2026, Polytron is targeting more aggressive growth in line with increasing public awareness of environmentally friendly vehicles.
Tekno did not detail Polytron’s electric motorcycle sales results from last year. However, since its initial launch, the population of Polytron electric motorcycles in Indonesia has now approached 50,000 units.
Based on data from the Vehicle Type Test Registration Certificate (SRUT) for Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles (KBLBB) released by the Ministry of Transportation, total national electric motorcycle sales in 2025 were recorded at 55,059 units.
From that figure, Polytron is estimated to have contributed around 33,000 units, or holding about 60 percent of the national electric motorcycle market share throughout last year.
