From Lab to Road: Bobibos Faces Motor Vehicle Testing Challenges
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The development of the alternative fuel Bobibos, Indonesia’s Original Made Fuel, has entered a crucial phase. After receiving positive feedback from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the product will soon undergo road tests to measure its suitability for use in motor vehicles. Unlike mere laboratory testing, road tests or road tests represent an important phase because they are designed to simulate real-world usage conditions in the field. Director of PT Inti Sinergi Formula, Randy F. Firdaus, stated that the testing scenarios will cover various road conditions commonly encountered in Indonesia. From uphill routes, downhill slopes, to bends, all will be traversed in this testing. “The road test will be conducted on petrol cars and motorcycles. On inclines, descents, bends, with a certain distance travelled,” Randy told Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026). This approach is considered important because the characteristics of roads in Indonesia are very diverse. In urban areas, vehicles face congestion and intense stop-and-go traffic. Meanwhile, in hilly or rural areas, engines must work harder when tackling long inclines or maintaining stability when descending. With such scenarios, the technical team will be able to assess whether Bobibos can deliver consistent performance in various conditions. Not only in terms of power, but also fuel efficiency and combustion stability inside the engine. Randy explained that the parameters to be measured in this road test include fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions, and overall engine performance. These three aspects serve as the main indicators in determining whether a fuel is suitable for widespread use. “What will be measured is BBN consumption, emissions, and engine performance,” he said.
