Residents around Jalan Raya Condet in East Jakarta are complaining about the frequent accidents due to potholes from excavations at several points on the road. This condition is deemed dangerous for road users, particularly motorcyclists. Wahyu (28), a local resident, said accidents have occurred repeatedly, even up to four times, with the most recent being quite severe. “Accidents happen often, but the road isn’t fixed until the last one yesterday went viral, then they patched it again. That won’t last long either, just watch,” said Wahyu when met on Friday (27/3/2026). He mentioned that the potholes from excavations have been there for about a month and are not limited to one spot. “These excavation remnants have been here for a month, but not just here, there are several, so if possible, the government should fix it properly, not just cover it haphazardly,” he explained. Rohman (32), one of the accident victims at the location, said he once fell due to a pothole, resulting in injuries to his leg. “Yes, I’ve had an accident too, before Eid I fell there. It was from the pipe excavation hole, after me, not long after, the woman from the viral incident yesterday,” he said. “After my accident, it wasn’t fixed yet, but after the recent buzz, they asphalted it, but the asphalt seems like it won’t hold for long,” said Rohman. He hopes there will be no more victims due to the potholed road and asks the government to carry out more permanent repairs. “I want it fixed properly, this is Jalan Raya Condet with a lot of traffic, and potholes are dangerous too, so don’t wait for it to go viral if possible,” he stated. A video uploaded by the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini shows a fairly deep pothole with sand fragments around it.
