Jakarta - The Paris prosecutor’s office has announced the formation of a special team to investigate the Epstein Files scandal. The team, composed of lawyers, will analyze documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

As reported by AFP on Sunday (15/2/2026), the team will work together with prosecutors from the national financial crimes unit and police.

The Paris prosecutor’s office also stated it will open an investigation into any alleged crimes linked to Epstein. Several prominent French public figures have appeared in the latest release by the US Department of Justice of materials from the Epstein files. However, the mention of names in the documents does not necessarily imply any legal wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, French authorities have indicated they will investigate a diplomat whose name appears repeatedly in the Jeffrey Epstein documents. The French diplomat’s name appeared in a number of emails to Epstein.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (11/2), requested an investigation into a diplomat named Fabrice Aidan. Barrot said he had forwarded the allegations involving Aidan to French prosecutors and launched an internal investigation.

“I was deeply shocked,” Barrot said in his statement on Wednesday (11/2).

He described Aidan as a “senior secretary for foreign affairs who is on leave for personal reasons and holds several positions in the private sector.”

Names appearing in the Epstein documents do not indicate wrongdoing or legal violations. However, French media outlets, after finding Aidan’s name in the Epstein files, reported that he exchanged emails with Epstein from 2010 to 2017.
