PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has revealed that the current production level at the mine, following the landslide incident in the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) underground mining area on 8 September 2025, has reached around 40–50 per cent. PTFI President Director Tony Wenas stated that Freeport Indonesia targets operations to return to near 100 per cent by the end of 2026 and achieve full production capacity in the early quarter of 2027. He emphasised that PTFI continues to strengthen safety aspects in the recovery of underground mine operations and has added security personnel in the Grasberg area to ensure safe and sustainable production. “We are committed to delivering safe, secured, and sustainable production, so that the greatest possible benefits can continue to be felt by the nation and state, as well as the communities around the operational area. We will continue to grow and develop together with the community until the completion of mining operations,” said Tony, quoted from his statement on Thursday, 9 April 2026. Throughout 2025, PTFI contributed around Rp70 trillion to the state in the form of taxes, royalties, dividends, and other revenues. PTFI also remains committed to providing direct benefits to communities around the operational area through various social investment programmes. In 2025, Tony continued, the value of PTFI’s social investment reached nearly Rp2 trillion and will continue to increase by around US$100 million or the equivalent of Rp1.5 trillion per year until the completion of mining operations. This commitment runs in parallel with the company’s contribution to job creation, with more than 30,000 employees, of which around 40 per cent are indigenous Papuans. “Looking ahead, we are optimistic that this contribution can continue to increase, in line with the still relatively high mineral commodity prices. In addition, we consistently implement strict safety and operational standards as part of our commitment to responsible mining practices,” said Tony. Freeport Indonesia commemorated its 59th anniversary with full reflection and respect, remembering the nine employees who perished in incidents over the past year. As part of the commemoration activities, PTFI management paid tribute to seven employees who died due to a wet material slide incident in the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) underground mine area on 8 September 2025, as well as two employees who died due to shooting incidents in February and March 2026.
