Employees of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) distributed aid to orphans and the needy during Ramadan. At least 700 orphans and needy children received the aid.

The aid was given at an iftar gathering event in Jakarta, which was also witnessed virtually by employees in the operational areas of Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on Monday (12/3/2026).

“The presence of these orphans and needy children among us provides positive energy and a sense of gratitude for being able to share with others. This aligns with the company’s values, particularly Respect and Commitment to the community and society in PTFI’s environment, both in Kuala Kencana, Tembagapura, Jakarta, and Gresik,” said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas in a written statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

He explained that the 700 orphans and needy children who attended came from various foundations. In Jakarta, the event was attended by 500 orphans and needy children from 11 foundations across Jabodetabek, including the Papuan Muslim Community. Meanwhile, in Gresik, 200 children from foundations around the smelter area participated.

In addition to breaking the fast together, the event included games and the distribution of aid and gift packages, which were the result of donations from PTFI employees in four work areas.

“We hope that the support we provide today can serve as encouragement for the children to continue studying and achieve their highest dreams,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the PTFI Al Ikhlas Religious Council (MTAI) Arif Latief explained that the event was initiated and carried out by PTFI employees with full support from the company. Employees in Jakarta and Gresik collaborated with the Muslim Community Foundation (YMM) in Tembagapura and donors to ensure the success of the event.

“PTFI’s presence must always provide benefits to all stakeholders. This event is proof that PTFI employees can collaborate and synergise, not only in work matters but also in social activities,” he said.

For additional information, in Jakarta, the event was made more lively with a performance by children’s storyteller Kak Awam Prakoso, who delivered an educational story expressively and interactively, followed by various games and competitions enthusiastically participated in by the children.

The event was also attended by management and 135 PTFI employees. Meanwhile, in Gresik, children from foundations in the Manyar, Kebomas, and Bungah sub-districts also joined the series of activities with great enthusiasm.
