Jakarta — Investment and Downstreaming Minister and Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani has confirmed that US mining company Freeport-McMoRan is committed to making a substantial additional investment in Indonesia.

Rosan, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Danantara Indonesia, revealed that the planned investment is valued at US$20 billion over the next 20 years. At an assumed exchange rate of Rp 16,884 per US dollar, this equates to approximately Rp 337.6 trillion.

The commitment is set out in a memorandum of understanding signed by Freeport-McMoRan and the Indonesian government. Rosan made the announcement during a press conference for the signing of the Indonesia-US Agreement of Reciprocal Trade, held online on Friday (20 February 2026).

“We expect Freeport to increase its investment by approximately US$20 billion over the next 20 years,” Rosan said.

Previously, the government decided to extend the special mining business licence (IUPK) of PT Freeport Indonesia until 2061 — 20 years beyond the current contract, which is due to expire in 2041. PT Freeport Indonesia is a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan.

Rosan expressed hope that the additional investment would make a significant contribution to both the national and regional economies, including through increased tax revenues and multiplier effects across other sectors.

“This will also deliver positive impacts in terms of tax receipts and other benefits,” he concluded.
