Freelancers Seek Extra Income From Digital Games
In the midst of the rising digital economy trend, more young people are seeking flexible sources of extra income that can be pursued without leaving their main jobs. Interestingly, one of the opportunities now gaining traction comes from the world of digital games. Activities that were once synonymous with entertainment are gradually expanding into part of a new economic opportunity, ranging from selling game vouchers, digital top-ups, to building one’s own online store for the needs of the gaming community. This phenomenon is also felt by Denu, a freelancer, who has now managed to earn an additional income of around Rp3 million per month from a digital gaming products business that he runs online. “At first I tried GameSquad out of curiosity, but the system turned out to be quite simple and easy to understand. I also don’t need to bother with setting up lots of things, and everything feels more practical because there is an automatic system that helps the transaction process run 24 hours,” he said. As a freelancer, Denu is already quite familiar with social media and the digital world. However he admitted that he had previously never run his own business. “As a freelancer, income depends on the work that is underway. So when projects are slow or not productive, income also declines. That’s why I started looking for a way to have additional income that can run while I focus on my main work,” he added. He began building his own digital game store gradually while continuing his main job. Promotions were simple through TikTok, gaming communities, and close friends. According to Denu, one reason the digital game business is increasingly popular is that the model is sufficiently flexible and does not require physical stock. All transactions run automatically, so they can be operated from anywhere using only a smartphone. In Indonesia, the gaming industry indeed continues to experience significant growth. The high number of active gamers makes needs such as top-ups for Mobile Legends, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Roblox, and other digital vouchers rise year by year. Watching the trend, platforms like GameSquad began to help users build their own digital stores more practically. Users can have their own store branding, sell various popular digital products, and utilise social media and online communities to reach their customers.
