Free transport and shopping discounts as Pram invites residents to celebrate Eid holiday in Jakarta
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has invited all residents to celebrate Eid 1447 Hijriah by remaining in Jakarta rather than returning to their hometowns, launching what the provincial government calls the “Migration to Jakarta” campaign.
“For this Eid, we are adopting the theme ‘Migration to Jakarta’. We invite everyone to celebrate Eid in Jakarta,” Pramono stated on Sunday.
The Jakarta provincial government has prepared several special programmes to facilitate residents spending the holiday in the capital. These include discount and price reduction schemes for shoppers at shopping centres during the two days preceding Eid (H-2 and H-1).
“We are offering discounts ranging from 50 per cent to 70 per cent at shopping centres for Jakarta residents,” he said.
The provincial government is also offering free public transport across Transjakarta, Mikrotrans, MRT, and LRT Jakarta to enable residents to access entertainment and shopping destinations throughout the capital.
“Residents can take advantage of free public transport on Eid day to travel around,” he explained.
Additionally, the provincial government will provide special discounts for residents staying in Jakarta during the Eid celebration, offering reduced rates at hotels throughout the city.
Pramono noted that residents can maintain contact with family members in their hometowns using smartphones through video calls, urging the community to fully utilise current technological advances to strengthen bonds with distant family members.
“Residents can video call their families throughout the day,” he said.
Pramono argued that if residents remain in Jakarta during Eid, their savings will not be depleted by travel costs. Residents will also avoid the fatigue of travelling tens or hundreds of kilometres to their hometowns.
“Travelling by car or motorcycle is certainly tiring and drains savings,” he stated.
However, the Jakarta provincial government is also facilitating residents wishing to return home through a free migration programme for 26,500 people planning to travel during the 1447 Hijriah Eid celebration.
“For those who wish to travel home, they are welcome to do so, and if they prefer not to, we provide these facilities instead,” he concluded.
