Fraud case ensnaring police officer's wife in Serang declared complete for prosecution
Banten Regional Police have declared the case file for alleged fraud and embezzlement worth Rp800 million, involving a police officer’s wife identified by the initials DV, as complete (P21).
Head of Public Relations at Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea, said in Serang on Friday that suspect DV along with the evidence had been transferred to the prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings.
“Banten Regional Police has been handling a report concerning alleged criminal fraud and embezzlement as stipulated under Articles 372 and 378 of the Criminal Code. We have transferred suspect DV to the prosecutor’s office,” Maruli said at a press conference held at the Wicaksana Lagawa Hall of Serang City Police.
The case originated from a report by a resident identified as AM, who claimed to have been a victim of fraud by the suspect, with total losses amounting to Rp800 million.
However, Maruli explained that the case had developed into two separate matters. At Serang City Police, DV’s side, through her legal representative Jatmiko, filed a counter-report against AM for alleged defamation under Article 315 of the old Criminal Code, which occurred in August 2025.
“The report stemmed from a heated argument between AM and DV’s legal representative. Because the complainant rejected mediation efforts, investigators ultimately designated AM as a suspect in December 2025,” Maruli said, explaining the circumstances of the case that had gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Head of Criminal Investigation at Serang City Police, Commissioner Alfano Ramadhan, affirmed that although involving the same parties, both cases were being handled professionally in accordance with prevailing legal procedures.
“These are two different cases, with different locations, times, and reporting parties. The defamation case falls under the category of minor criminal offence (Tipiring) and its file has been transferred to Serang District Court,” Alfano explained.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to working transparently. Members of the public who object to the handling of the case are welcome to pursue internal oversight mechanisms through Propam or Itwasda.
