I want to relate a peculiar story about fraud that happened in
Yogyakarta lately. The victims were mostly women wearing Moslem
head scarves.

A plump, dark-skinned woman, with curly hair and heavy eye-
brows, who could speak Balinese dialect, tried to convince her
victims that she was from Bali. Investigation proved she was a
resident of Yogyakarta. She was capable of enchanting her victims
with her soft and friendly voice.

She introduces herself as architecture student of Gajah
University, adding that she is muallaf (new Moslem), hailing from
Bali by the name Ida Ayu Ratu.

After the introduction and her convincing story, she begged to
visit the victim in her house or boarding house. When allowed,
she then pitifully asked to borrow some money. If the host was
inattentive, she stole valuables.

She is really Javanese from Yogyakarta, and her parents
desperately admitted that they could do nothing about it and
could no longer manage her. She has been absent from home for
quite some time.
